5 Reasons Your Home’s Exterior Looks Ugly

Whether your home is part of a collection of others on your street or is set back in acres of land, one thing everyone will notice is what it looks like from the outside.

One fact of life is that people will make certain judgements about your home even if they never set foot inside of it – and it’s all to do with its exterior appearance.

How do you know if your home looks “ugly” or unappealing from the outside? Moreover, what can you do about the problem?

The following common telltale signs illustrate what can make a home cause people to have a negative assessment of it and the steps you can take to remedy those issues:

1. Massive Cracks In Exterior Walls

One of the most significant telltale signs that your home’s exterior is not aesthetically pleasing is when there are massive cracks on the walls outside.

Such cracks typically occur due to subsidence, so it’s worth having a professional contractor investigate the issue if you need remedial work.

In the meantime, it makes sense to have cement rendering carried out so that the cracks in your exterior walls are a thing of the past.

2. Faded Paint

Most people’s homes have some elements that have a paint colour or coating on them. Examples can include wood sidings, doors, and door and window frames and ledges.

Have you noticed that such colours or coatings have faded on your home’s exterior? If so, now’s the time to buy the paint or colour coatings you need, along with any other materials or accessories, and take care of the problem.

3. Broken Or Missing Roof Tiles

It goes without saying that you need a well-maintained roof to stop the elements from entering your home from above.

For most people, their roof tiles offer several decades of service – but they don’t last forever. That’s why it’s essential to keep your roof maintained at all times.

Have any broken or missing roof tiles addressed by a reputable local roofing company as soon as possible. They can also tell you if anything else on your roof needs fixing soon to avoid expensive repair costs later.

4. Unmaintained Front Lawn

Does your front lawn resemble a wild garden or even a forest? Has the local wildlife spent most of their time on your front lawn instead of elsewhere in your neighbourhood?

If so, the chances are high that your lawn is letting down the general aesthetic of your street, and your neighbours are probably not very pleased about looking at it every day either.

It’s a gardening job you can tackle yourself with some patience and the right tools and equipment. Alternatively, you could hire a landscape gardener to help you.

5. Broken Doors Or Windows

One final point to consider is your home’s doors and windows. Do any of them look lacklustre? Perhaps you’ve taped shut some broken glass on your front door or nailed on some temporary wood panels on broken windows that are rotting?

Evaluate your doors and windows, and properly repair or replace any damaged ones to stop your home’s exterior from looking ugly!
