Our Experience Of Buying And Selling A House In A Pandemic Lockdown

I know a lot of people that are doing this, yes were one of them, we were planning to do it this year anyways but started the process early with the exemption of the stamp duty to save us a few thousand pounds.

My husband is an assistant manager of an Estate Agents in Solihull, so made our experience a lot easier and stress free. With him seeing properties coming on the market every day it was a great help for us to find one.

We sold our property within about a month of having it on the market to first time buyers. We have spent a fair bit of money spent on our property, including new windows and composite front door and decorated throughout so is in really good condition.

What we were looking for?

Our house currently is a 3 bed semi detached property in Solihull, comprising of a lounge, kitchen/diner, rear garden, 3 bedrooms & 1 bathroom. We wanted something bigger but weren’t sure what we were looking for.

Tom & I have looked at 3 & 4 bedroom properties but as nice as the 4 bedrooms were there was something to always compromise on and nothing ticked the boxes, for example we always wanted a larger garden and one of the properties we looked at was perfect inside but the garden was tiny.

Where did we want to move to?

I, ideally wanted to stay local in the area to family because we have childcare help from both sets of parents which we didn’t want to be too far away incase of an emergency. Also, wanting to be in the catchment area of a decent school for Freddie. We did look at areas such as wythall & Warwickshire also.

What have we found?

So, we have found a largely extended 3 double bedroom semi detached property, It comprises of a lounge, dining room, study/playroom, large extended kitchen/diner, large rear garden, guest WC and family bathroom with shower & bath which is ideal for us. There is so much space to play with.

Our Experience Overall

Moving house can be a very stressful experience for all parties involved as chains can be long but with plenty of research and guidance you can make it stress free as possible. Be sure not to rush into moving if your not 100% sure on properties, not to mention the expenses that can be accrued.

I left my husband to deal with all the small details after we had agree on a prices to put in an offer as frankly it goes over my head.

It took us 5 Months to finally exchange and complete and ended up having to do exchanging on the Monday & completing on the Wednesday of the same week, due to the top of the chains solicitors incompetency but we can finally say we are moved in and can’t wait to share our new house journey with you all!!
